My life is my own again. For a week I have been surrogate mom to my four year old great nephew. It has been wonderful and exhausting!! We had a great time and spent a lot of time talking and learning. My sleep habits are vastly different than a four year old boy. We survived without any incidents but WOW the energy the he has. He loves to play with super heroes. The action figures, the vehicles of transportation and their weaponry. It was great pretending.

Lily’s Lagniappe: This week is the beginning of March Madness. For the first time is a while the LSU Men’s Basketball team is headed to PA to play NC State in the first round of the basketball National Championship. Tonight we find out if the LSU Women’s Basketball team is also in the bracket for the Women’s Basketball Championship. GEAUX TIGERS!!!

The finishing touches have been placed on the synopsis. The three chapters have been checked and rechecked and the query letter has been finalized. Now only copies of the chapter, query and synopsis need to be made and sent to the publisher.

Lily’s Lagniappe: Spring time is great everywhere but the blooming in Louisiana is outstanding. That rich gumbo soil is wonderful for growing just about every kind of flower and plant. Truly a beautiful sight to see.

Both my boys (great nephews) have arrived at The Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, NC. We’re headed to the water park for the majority of the day. The small boy, 17 months old, found the little baby pool exhausting. So he went to sleep in his great Aunt Ebbie’s arms and slept away while 4 year old Brooks slid down two slides on his own. Big accomplishment for him; bravery has been an issue. But he conquered his hesitation. Good trip for all.

Lily’s Lagniappe: Crawfish time in Louisiana. Mmmm good eating. Be sure to have some if you visit.

March 9, 2015

We have arrived at the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord, NC. Brooks is excited but because it is so late in the day we’re not going to the water park today. But story time and games room, here we come. Working on a new Picture book idea based on an article I wrote and submitted to Highlights. It got a favorable rejection. That may sound like an oxy moron but really it is not. An editor took the time to write something very nice about the article but said it wouldn’t work for Highlights.

Lily’s Lagniappe: A tour of plantation homes during this time of year is a pleasure. Most of the houses are still preserved in their natural state which, of course, means no air conditioning or heating but with the heating problem they all usually have mammoth fireplaces. This time of year also shows off their magnificent gardens.

Putting finishing touches on synopsis. mailing off chapter book on Monday to my selected publisher with hope. Query ready, first three chapters ready and with the finishing touches on synopsis it is ready. Now onto another project.

Lily’s Lagniappe: I do love the spring time in Louisiana but the pollen is ridiculous. So if you have allergies you might want to wait until May before you visit. The temps are warm enough to keep all the pollen at bay by that time. Cest tout!!

March 5, 2015

Printing off chapter book, query and first three chapters of Flies in the Outfield. The query is the most important so I may send to critique group one more time to see if it is on point. Needed to beef up the insects in the query so one of my soup sisters said. I’ve tried to do that. Yes I think it will go one more time to the group. Then I will put some extra mojo on the package and send it off the the publisher.

Lily’s Lagniappe: The spring time is a wonderful time all over the world but it is not the proper time to take small children to the zoo because the animals are frisky. Just saying!!!

March 3, 2015

Well today is the day I send off my little manuscript to an editor that will be scrutinized it to death before either rejecting or accepting it. If I know that I have it in the best shape because I have the best critique group  to help then no matter what I happens I know I gave it my best shot. Then I can send it to agents or other editors.

Lily’s Lagniappe: Well pre-spring in Louisiana is balmy, blooming bushes, trees and flowers, windy,¬† rainy, and some of the most unpredictable weather of the year. The adage in the spring is, it always rains somewhere in Louisiana. Be prepared.

March 1, 2015

Well reworking a synopsis and query letter to send off with the three chapters to an editor. Hopefully I will get an acceptance or decent rejection. Really would like a contract. Here’s hoping 2015 has some real HOPE in it.

Lily’s Lagniappe: Louisiana has a lot of rain during this time period. The azaleas, the crepe myrtles, the magnolia trees, the daisies, the tulips, the mimosas, etc need the moisture during this period right before spring. The spring is a wonderful time in Louisiana. Every thing blooms, city and towns are beautiful. The medians between boulevards are gorgeous and the sides of the interstates are bursting with color. Traveling the state during this time is wonderful and not that humid or hot. Plantation homes, historical forts, Civil War battlegrounds, museums and any other building that teaches others about Louisiana’s great history are delight to visit.

Reworking a query letter, a synopsis and first three chapters of a chapter book that I’m sending to Boyds Mills Press. Hoping to get something started. Their response time is three months. ReFoReMo began yesterday. It seems a good way to break down picture books. 12 X12 is still going strong. Well I simply wonder if I will ever get a thumbs up from them. Will be diligent about posting every month because it is what will help me. Hope everyone is busy writing with all these winter-filled days. But above all else stay warm and safe.

Lily’s Lagniappe: Even my home state has been hit with ice and snow. Louisianans are used to dealing with hurricanes another type of weather situation but not the icy roads and snow. It will shut down everything. Kids will love it but parents won’t.

Had a great writers meeting today, it was uplifting and invigorating. I’m sending a manuscript out first part of next week hoping for the best. Also revising and working on several other manuscripts. Have new idea for a picture book that needs TLC to get off the ground. Working and researching the new idea. Must have extensive research to make sure it is accurate. Looking forward to the research.

Lily’s Lagniappe: Louisiana is beautiful during the spring. Azaleas, Magnolias, mimosas trees, etc. Everything is in bloom and sprouting beautiful colors; a palette for the eyes.
