Working on a manuscript for the September conference. I’m getting it in the mail today for a critique. The SCBWI Carolinas conference is in the later part of September. Hoping to get a good critique. Working on trimming my new manuscript about Ugglewuggle Warthog. Then hoping to send to Deborah Halverson a whole manuscript for editorial review.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Well, most of you know I am a football fan. The football season for 2015 has begun. Truly excited about that. Hoping the LSU Tigers have a great season.
Working on a new picture book and also working on the manuscript I took to Los Angeles for the SCBWI Summer Conference. The SEARCH FOR THE PRINCESS is a MG novel about knights, quests, video games and the modern middle grade student. I also have a YA novel about BARBEQUING THE BOOB SQUAD, and a new picture book about UGGLEWUGGLE WARTHOG. Getting ready for the September conference trying decide which one to send for critique.
Lily’s Lagniappe: This is purely selfish but I have a young cousin dying of Batten’s Disease. There is a go fund me account for her through Facebook; search Prayers for Olivia. Anything you can do to help the family is greatly appreciated and used strictly for Livvy.
In Tucson with Dad. The daily routine for him has changed and he seems to be happy although he really wants to end up with a winner of a company. On Thursday August 13th he has a very important meeting with Tech. Pray that it goes our way.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Tucson for the first time ever since Dad has been living there is raining a lot. Real gully washers.
Today is the Intensive day at the SCBWI Summer Conference. My first intensive was too much information squashed into a small amount of time. The two men did a good job with the material on a very superficial basis. It at least let us know the things that are available to us as authors on websites and blogs.
The second intensive with Stephen Fraser was fantastic. We read our pitches in front of the room he gave valuable input then we reworked the pitches and re-read them. Then he had us read our first pages. He gave me a glowing review on my pacing. Validating my piece as an adventure.
Lily’s Lagniappe: The dog days of summer are here. Heat and outside work without hydration can cause real problems. Stay safe!
Second day of conference. Dan Santat’s keynote was heart warming and touching. Varian Johnson’s and Jane O’Connor’s keynote was wonderful also. Candance Fleming’s and Eric Rohmann’s break session was also very good. Another day of information on how to be a better writer.
Lily’s Lagniappe: The weather in the deep south is very warm and humid. Starting LSU football in such weather is very hot and nasty but the team is playing and I will be watching.
The conference began today. Meetings, keynotes, break out sessions, walking through the tunnel to get lunch. Yes the conference has begun and things are getting started well. Mem Fox got things started off great! Most everyone is in good spirits and participants are very friendly.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Another day closer to football season. Can you tell I’m having withdrawals?
Well, heading to Los Angeles today for the SCBWI LA Summer Conference. US Airlines delivered me safely to LA and the weather is beautiful. My room was ready when i got to the hotel (very unusual) and I moved my things into the room. I faced the pool and it has been nice in the afternoons facing the afternoon sun. I have scheduled an intensive for Monday after the conference. First with Jim Averback and Lee Wind about blogging and the afternoon with Stephen Frasier.
Lily’s Lagniappe: The college football season is creeping up on us the die-hard fans of football in the south. we can’t wait to tailgate and watch our teams run onto the field. GEAUX TIGERS!!
Leaving Charlottesville, around noon to return to HIckory for a day and then leave Wednesday to go to LA summer SCBWI Conference and then for a week with Dad in Tucson.
Going to print off documents found about Boob squad. My writer’s group didn’t like the premise but I do. Sometimes you have to break the mold to find your voice.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Hoping to see family during the football season. The Tigers should have some games on television. At least I hope so.
Well, Brooks and I are doing well this morning. Eating breakfast and making plans for the day. Cherish my niece is coming to the hotel and we are taking Brooks to see the Minion Movie. He is excited and it is a good day for his momma and him. Surprising him for a day with her and me with no plans and an easy going day. We took him to the mall and let him play for about two hours. He had a blast. It was a good day for all of us.
No writing this weekend but researching through documents looking for more into about Barbequing the Boob Squad. Found some and now researching the documents to bring in the cast of characters and the conflicts that lead up to the BBQ.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Football season is soon to start and that is a very good thing.
Still working on 12 X 12 challenge for the year. Need a picture book manuscript for July and soon one for August. I’m also still in CBA class for another two weeks and in also in Kidlit Summer School The Plot Thickens. Leaving next week going to SCBWI LA Conference. But first heading to Charlottesville to see Brooks and Cherish. Trying to give her a weekend free of strife. Little man is easily pacified. Working on several picture book germs of ideas hoping one will come to be a good one. But we will just keep plugging along.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Football season coming soon. Family seems to be in a good place. Dad is worried and hopefully he will come out of this strife smelling like a rose. We have our health and that is something to be very thankful far.
