Leaving Charlottesville, around noon to return to HIckory for a day and then leave Wednesday to go to LA summer SCBWI Conference and then for a week with Dad in Tucson.
Going to print off documents found about Boob squad. My writer’s group didn’t like the premise but I do. Sometimes you have to break the mold to find your voice.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Hoping to see family during the football season. The Tigers should have some games on television. At least I hope so.
Well, Brooks and I are doing well this morning. Eating breakfast and making plans for the day. Cherish my niece is coming to the hotel and we are taking Brooks to see the Minion Movie. He is excited and it is a good day for his momma and him. Surprising him for a day with her and me with no plans and an easy going day. We took him to the mall and let him play for about two hours. He had a blast. It was a good day for all of us.
No writing this weekend but researching through documents looking for more into about Barbequing the Boob Squad. Found some and now researching the documents to bring in the cast of characters and the conflicts that lead up to the BBQ.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Football season is soon to start and that is a very good thing.
Still working on 12 X 12 challenge for the year. Need a picture book manuscript for July and soon one for August. I’m also still in CBA class for another two weeks and in also in Kidlit Summer School The Plot Thickens. Leaving next week going to SCBWI LA Conference. But first heading to Charlottesville to see Brooks and Cherish. Trying to give her a weekend free of strife. Little man is easily pacified. Working on several picture book germs of ideas hoping one will come to be a good one. But we will just keep plugging along.
Lily’s Lagniappe: Football season coming soon. Family seems to be in a good place. Dad is worried and hopefully he will come out of this strife smelling like a rose. We have our health and that is something to be very thankful far.
Finishing up a picture book class with Children’s Book Academy and also Kidlit Summer School where the subject this year is plot. I still have a lot of work to do for the first class and see all the videos. Mira Reisberg uses videos a lot in her teaching. She must be a visual learner like so many people are. The first couple of posts for Kidlit have been very useful also. Still waiting to hear about chapter book. Getting together an Agent Package to send out.
Lily’s Lagniappe: For those of us who love football, the ESPN SEC network has been replaying the top 20 football games of the 2014 season. I’m loving the replays because it is the next best thing to the game being live. Looking forward to the 2015 season. GEAUX TIGERS!!
I am taking the PB class from the Children’s Book Academy. The weeks of this course is chocked full of information and useful exercises to help your picture book take on a different life of its own. Setting your character up with obstacles to allow them to overcome. You need at least three for them to attempt and then the resolution.
Lily’s Lagniappe: The closer and closer to football season the more excited I get. College football is fun and exciting to watch whether on the television or in the stadium. Love purple but live GOLD! GEAUX TIGERS!!
The issues with some of my manuscripts is that the obstacles for my MC is not enough angst. I hope that I can clean that up in most of my PB manuscripts. The MC must solve their own problems and learn something in the process. Most of my MC learn something or struggle to fix things but maybe the struggles or obstacles need pumping up.
Lily’s Lagniappe: School is soon going to start. Be sure to pay attention to the little ones going to stand at the bus stops. Go SLOW and keep a watchful eye.
Well another twitter pitch coming up and seems to be ongoing for every Friday for awhile. It a literary agency asking for queries. I think I will try to get ready for this one. This agency is a British firm with offices in New York and San Francisco. They are looking for clients and I’m not in the caliber of their clients; but if i don’t try I will never know. They are just not responding if they don’t care to read the material. So it will be silence. Better than a horrible rejection. Wish me luck!
Lily’s Lagniappe: The dog days of summer are upon us. This is when the threatening thunder storms dance across the mid-west and the south. Stay safe out there!
This begins a new week with the CBA class and working on 12 X 12 manuscript for July. Here’s hoping for a productive month and continuing to keep up with a manuscript a month for the rest of the year. The class I’m taking is helping me find ‘what ifs’ in my present manuscript. These are questions or taking the character on a journey that they may never take but will help you round out the personality of the character or find their fears. Either way it is a journey with your character that can make your book richer and better.
Lily’s Lagniappe: It is getting close to football season. The universities are getting ready for fall camp. Love college football and the anticipation is really beginning for the 2015 season. GEAUX TIGERS!!
Taking a class with Children’s Book Academy about writing PB. It has me re-examining the depth of my picture book main characters. It is overwhelming and challenging at the same time. Taking a part a manuscript with 600 words or less and adding emotion seems a daunting task but I am up for it. At work…
Lily’s Lagniappe: Please folks try not to strip the South of everything they hold dear. Not everything is based on the Civil War. It did not all come from slavery or the owning of slaves.
Good Morning! I am in Gatlinburg, TN this fine morning. I came to check things for my dad but I love the condo here. It’s quiet, it’s isolated, it’s located away from the maddening crowd and the traffic. Gatlinburg is a tourist city and the traffic in the summer is horrendous. It is very close to Pigeon Forge, another tourist city with scads of traffic. Now back to my writing, the picture book class has taken one of manuscripts and turned it on its proverbial ear. I have taken too much out at the beginning. I need to add some back in and still keep the word count low. Back to the drawing board…
Lily’s Lagniappe: Well, there are times in our lives as family members that we must make decisions about our parents. Yesterday four cousins of mine had to make the hard choice of putting one of their parents into a home. They all went together in a united front and it was as painless as it could be. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this adjustment period in their lives.
